Escape!

Katalyn ran down the street, panting as she hurried, skidding to a halt in a dead end alleyway she froze, then looked back at the pair of thugs coming after her.

Looking around she quickly grabbed an old pipe, holding it up.

"Leave ma alone!" the tiny girl said feircely.

"Oh ho, look at that," one of the thugs snickered, nudging his buddy. "Little girl has a weapon."

"Better be scared," his partner snickered. Then he shook his head, then advancing on her. "Seriously, sweetie, just put the pipe down. We'll make it a lot better for ya if you jsut come without a fuss."

"Like @#%$!" she screeched, lashing out quickly.

The man screamed, toppling over.

"My knee!" he bellowed.

"You little @#%#^," the other man screeched, reaching for her and grabbing the pipe as it swung again.

Katalyn's eyes got huge, and she started to squirm and kick at him, desperately re-reaching for her powers, which were still not working when she needed them to.

"Nightlife is a woman," he said, eyes glinting, remembering the strange encounter he'd had. Very Bat-like, but more forboding and dark. A younger version of the Bat's informant mode, one unrestrained and boreline sinister, definetly angry. "She showed up a little while ago. Threw a list we could barely read at us and chewed us out good. Said she'd be in touch, but so far only the report eairlier of the two men including anything to do with her. I thought the Bat didn't stand for vigs."

"She vas, till she had a run-in vith a mad scientist type. Und she's not a vigilante, she's an information broker." Dämmerung gently tucked a wing under the girl and cradled her, then looked up. "Batvoman sends greetings."

"Yeah?" he said, only his eyes betraying the relief the new brought to him. "Well, speaking of information, the department's facing a serious lack of it. We were almost glad Nightlife approached us, but since she's incapacitated, we were wondering if you knew anything about the organized crime going on."

Dämmerung flicked her ears and considered, then gave him several tips that would help the situation overall. Non of them pertained to anything that he had suspected or had hints of. Just like her predecessor she aimed to keep him on his toes in that regard. (Brenda had told her that this was important to the image).

He frowned, then looked at the girl. "When are you getting her back on her feet? She was a little more helpful," he grumbled.

"Those leads are important." She stood, transferring Kat to her arms, then looked at him enigmatically and twitched her ears very slightly before tossing down a hard-folded piece of paper and then disappearing into the shadows as he watched.

"Yeah. I don't doubt it. But Nightlfe was giving us the scoop," he sighed as he stared at the thin air, then shook his head and picked up the paper. "If you're still here... give Batwoman my regards."

There was no reply, only his name written in familiar, painfully impatient but learned script on the paper. It was Batwoman's writing.

He frowned, reading it, then tucking it into his inner coat pocket and sighing before ducking out to check on his men and make some calls.
