A park in Gotham

All was calm, all was quiet.

Then a black-edged portal sprang into existence over the duck pond and two people flew through. The black-haired girl surfaced immediately and swam to shore, laughing heartily.

"Stronghold, yer such a fragbrain!" she hollered after reaching the shore and bounding to her feet. "Ya know what ducks do in there?"

And nearly lost a finger as the portal snapped shut and vanished.

"Oh. Man. Oh...crap." He stepped back from the portal, cluching his finger. Will stiffened, the full reality of the situation hitting him. If Mornbein didn't come back, he was stuck here.

In Gotham. Gotham...freakin' City.

How was he to get back home!? It was all because of that horrible cafe that kept appearing out of nowhere. Now it got him into this mess. Hey, at least it would make a great story. When and if he got back home, that was.

"Um...uh..." he turned around, knowing that the creepy Batwoman probably hadn't taken her hidden eyes off of him. "I don't suppose you can call up those portals too, heh heh?"

A metalic red gauntlet closed on the front of his shirt and lifted him into the air till he was face to face with that terrifying mask. "What did she mean?"

Will found himself suddenly staring into a very scary face. He thought better of breaking out of her hold, remembering what Mornbein said about metas, and just hung there in her grasp limply.

"Uh, uhm...she's a joker, that's all." His eyes widened. "Not a Joker! I mean, she's likes to joke around! Wow, I can't mess this up any worse, can I?"
